The main task of the laboratory is to conduct research in the field of:
- biotechnological innovations,
- horticultural and agricultural practices
- and the natural environment.
The Plant Biotechnology Laboratory consists of air-conditioned laboratory rooms equipped with equipment and apparatus, rooms acting as a greenhouse-propagator and a vegetation hall (located at the walls of the building and on the roof). Research is conducted in three laboratories:
- In Vitro Plant Culture Laboratory,
- Molecular Marker Laboratory,
- Chromatography Laboratory.
Research conducted in the laboratories mainly affects such areas as: introduction of plants used in pharmaceuticals and the production of food substitutes, improvement of methods for purifying municipal and industrial waste, recultivation or prevention of the formation of degraded areas and obtaining substances, microorganisms and plants resistant to greenhouse shock and limiting the use of artificial and mineral fertilizers.
Products:
- Implementation instructions for micropropagation of fruit, ornamental and energy plants,
- Implementation instructions for quality assessment/certification of nursery material obtained through in vitro cultures,
- Varieties of fruit plants adapted to organic and integrated cultivation, tolerant to stresses associated with the greenhouse effect,
- Varieties of energy plants suitable for cultivation in polluted or pollution-prone areas,
- Ornamental varieties particularly useful in urban plantings and polluted or pollution-prone areas,
- Natural substances and strains of beneficial microorganisms used as effective plant protection products or otherwise increasing/stabilizing yield and crop quality,
- Production of elite nursery material of the above varieties (in cooperation with nursery companies in the Podkarpacie region) in quantities meeting the needs of south-eastern Poland.
