Musica Galiciana. The Musical Culture of Galicia in the Context of Polish Ukrainian Relations
Musica Galiciana. The Musical Culture of Galicia in the Context of Polish‑Ukrainian Relations is the only publishing series on the Polish market devoted to the history of the rich musical life of the former Habsburg province and its multiethnic heritage, viewed from the perspective of the nations whose histories are intertwined with this region.
The multi‑author monographs published within the series are the result of international “Musica Galiciana” scholarly conferences, held regularly for over 25 years in Poland (Rzeszów) and Ukraine (Ivano‑Frankivsk, Drohobych, Lviv, Kolomyia). These volumes serve as a platform for discussion on the still insufficiently explored issues of the development and formation of musical traditions in former Galicia, opening new research directions and perspectives. They foster academic contacts, the exchange of knowledge and viewpoints, and cooperation between scholars in Poland and abroad.
Among the volumes published so far—presenting research conducted by scholars from Poland, Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Israel, and the United States—there are thematic editions focused on specific issues, such as the activity of the musical theatre in Lviv (2003, vol. 7), the achievements and role of women in the development of Galicia’s musical life (2019, vol. 16), or the figures of Fryderyk Chopin (2012, vol. 13) and his student Karol Mikuli (2021, vol. 17).
