Research
The Institute conducts research across a wide range of fields within cultural, social, religious, and economic history, with particular emphasis on the history of southeastern Poland. Research is carried out within several specialised departments, including:
- Department of Modern History and Church History – focusing on political, social, and ecclesiastical developments from the early modern period onwards.
- Department of Economic and Social History – examining long‑term economic structures and social transformations.
- Department of History of Historiography and Methodology of History – specialising in the theory of history and the didactics of history education.
- Department of Nineteenth‑Century History – exploring political, cultural, and social developments of the nineteenth century.
- Department of Ancient History and Oriental Studies – pursue research on the history ancient Rome and Persia (present-day Iran).
- Department of Medieval History and Old Norse Studies – focuses primarily on the medieval history of Poland and Scandinavia
- Department of Contemporary History – investigate a broad range of political and military issues connected with twentieth-century history.
- Department of Heritage Tourism – addresses topics of particular relevance to students, including regional heritage, spatial analysis, and cultural tourism.

The Institute also operates a fully equipped laboratory for archivisation and diplomatics, supporting both research and teaching. Since its establishment, the Institute History has played a significant role in the education and professional preparation of future history teachers.
