About us
The Polish Community Centre is a specialized research and teaching unit operating within Faculty of Philology of the University of Rzeszów.
History
In 1990, the Polish Language Department was established at the Pedagogical University of Rzeszów. It was transformed into The Centre for Polish Culture and Language for Poles from Abroad and Foreigners ‘Polonus’ in 1996. The main task of this unit was to prepare candidates of Polish origin for studies in Poland. The youth learned the Polish language, core subjects, Polish culture and history in courses lasting for one academic year.
In 2014, the Senate of University of Rzeszów established The Centre for Research on Polonia and Poles Abroad. Its aim is to carry out scientific-research and archival-informational tasks in the field of issues related to the Polish diaspora.
On January 1, 2020, by the decision of the Rector of the University of Rzeszów prof. dr hab. Sylwester Czopek (based on resolution No. 523/12/2019 of the Senate of the University of Rzeszów), the Polish Community Centre was established from the merger of the above units, which continues the activities of above units.
