Institute of Philosophy at the University of Rzeszów: Brief history and activities

The roots of the philosophical community in Rzeszów date back to the 1960s, when the Department of Socio-Historical Sciences operated within the former Pedagogical University. In 1982, it was transformed into the Department of Philosophy and Sociology, later renamed the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology. On October 1, 1996, the independent Institute of Philosophy was established. Its first director was Professor Andrzej L. Zachariasz, followed by Assoc. Professor Przemysław Paczkowski, and currently Assoc. Professor Krzysztof Bochenek.

The Institute of Philosophy offers:

  • a master's degree in intercultural communication (since 2021),
  • the right to confer the degree of Doctor of Humanities in the discipline of philosophy (since 2016).

The Institute organizes numerous academic conferences, both national and international, in cooperation with institutions such as the Association of Philosophers of Slavic Countries. Researchers from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and other European countries have participated in these events.

Faculty members publish monographs and scholarly articles in various languages, appearing in both national and international scientific journals.
