17th International Scientific Conference Musica Galiciana, 18–19 November 2019
On 18–19 November 2019, the 17th International Scientific Conference MUSICA GALICIANA was held at the Institute of Music of the University of Rzeszów. The conference, titled “Karol Mikuli and His Students in the Context of the Development of Music Education in Galicia (on the 200th Anniversary of the Composer’s Birth)”, was dedicated to the virtuoso pianist (a student of Chopin), distinguished pedagogue, composer, conductor, and organizer of musical life in Galicia.
The conference was attended by 42 scholars representing 12 academic centers from the USA (Rochester), Germany (Leipzig), Slovakia (Prešov), Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Drohobych, Rivne), and Poland (Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Rzeszów).
Two artistic events accompanied the conference: • the exhibition “The History of the Galician Music Society in Lviv in Ten Scenes”, and • the concert “Karol Mikuli – Chopin’s Student and the Composers of His Era”, featuring young artists from Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv) as well as faculty members of the Institute of Music.
