Objectives and Tasks

The Centre for Foreign Language Teaching and Certification of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Rzeszów carries out teaching, certification, and service-related tasks that respond to the needs of contemporary academic education as well as to the challenges arising from globalisation, the internationalisation of science and the labour market. Proficiency in foreign languages constitutes an essential component of cultural, professional, and social competences, enabling active participation in academic, scholarly, and professional life.

The primary objective of the Centre is to promote foreign language learning through the provision of language courses tailored to the profile and field of study, encompassing both general and specialist language instruction. The teaching process is implemented using modern teaching materials, up-to-date specialist texts, and information and communication technologies that support the effective development of language competences.

As part of its activities, the Centre for Foreign Language Teaching and Certification:

• provides foreign language instruction, including English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, and Latin, for students of the University of Rzeszów, offering programmes adapted to the specific characteristics of individual faculties and fields of study;

• organises fee-based remedial courses, specialist language courses, and courses preparing for international language certification examinations;

• operates its own examination centre, where it conducts language competence certification examinations, including, inter alia, LinguaSkill, LanguageCert, TestDaF, TOLES (legal English), and TELC examinations at all levels of language proficiency;

• conducts foreign language examinations for doctoral students as well as language examinations required for obtaining professional specialisations in state institutions;

• in cooperation with units of the University of Rzeszów, in particular the Office for International Cooperation, prepares students for international professional placements and studies at partner universities, and offers specialist language courses for University staff, including within the Erasmus+ programme;

• provides language services, including translation, support in the preparation of academic publications in foreign languages, the organisation of international conferences, academic sessions, and scholarly meetings, as well as activities facilitating the establishment and development of international cooperation.

The Centre for Foreign Language Teaching and Certification also conducts fee-based educational activities for public offices and institutions, contributing to the dissemination of language competences and to strengthening the relations between the University of Rzeszów and its socio-economic environment.
