Faculty of Biology, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development

The Faculty of Biology, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development at the University of Rzeszów, was officially established on January 1, 2025, as a result of the transformation of the Institute of Biology, which had been operating since April 1, 2023. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in Biology and conducts advanced research within the field of biological sciences.

The Faculty’s mission is to pursue scientific excellence, attain international recognition, and promote an interdisciplinary approach to biological research. Particular emphasis is placed on fostering collaboration with the socio-economic environment and implementing innovative educational practices. A central priority is the integration of sustainable development principles into both research and teaching, with the aim of preparing environmentally responsible and socially engaged professionals.

The Faculty operates without an internal division into departments or laboratories. This organizational model fosters the integration of research teams and facilitates the development of collaborative scientific initiatives.

The Faculty’s development strategy for the years 2025–2030 outlines the following key objectives:

  • advancing interdisciplinary research areas,
  • internationalizing scientific activities through partnerships with leading research institutions worldwide,
  • enhancing the effectiveness of research funding acquisition,
  • supporting the professional development of academic staff,
  • increasing student involvement in research projects,
  • embedding sustainability principles into academic curricula and institutional practices.

The Faculty is actively involved in ecological education and the promotion of pro-environmental attitudes within society. This mission is realized through a wide range of scientific and educational initiatives.

Among the most prominent science popularization events organized by the Faculty are:

  • The Night of Biologists,
  • The Science Picnic,
  • numerous interviews and expert commentaries delivered by Faculty members to television and radio outlets
