Institute of Archaeology
Established in 1999, the Institute of Archaeology has emerged as a distinguished academic centre, specialising in the study of the East-Central European borderlands. Since its inception, the Institute has been steadfast in its mission to cultivate the intellectual growth of both scholars and researchers.
A significant milestone was achieved in 2005, when the Institute was granted the authority to award doctoral degrees. This accomplishment was later complemented in 2010 by the approval to confer postdoctoral qualifications (dr hab.) in Archaeology, a testament to the Institute’s rising prestige and the outstanding contributions of its faculty to national and international research.
The Institute comprises two specialist departments:
- Department of Prehistoric Archaeology
- Department of Medieval and Modern Archaeology
Presently, the Institute continues to lead the way in interdisciplinary and international research, fostering collaborations with prominent European research institutions. Its fieldwork spans Poland and extends to excavations in Ukraine, Moldavia, Germany, France, Romania, and the Czech Republic.
