Research

The Athletics Centre for Innovative Research in Sport comprises three specialized laboratories:

  • Laboratory of Movement Analysis
  • Laboratory of Physiology and Biochemistry of Physical Effort
  • Laboratory of Psychology and Psychomotor Science

These facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art research instrumentation, enabling the conduct of advanced investigations in the field of physical culture sciences. The Centre supports interdisciplinary research and fosters innovation in the study of human movement, physical performance, and psychomotor functioning.

The Centre’s scientific activities are primarily focused on the implementation of research projects, the publication of peer-reviewed articles, and active participation in scientific conferences and workshops. Core areas of inquiry include the assessment of motor and psychomotor abilities, biomechanical analysis of movement, and exercise physiology. Research interest is focused on both elderly individuals and physically active children. Furthermore, professional athletes representing disciplines such as football, handball, rugby, and American football are regularly involved in the studies.

The Centre also undertakes research involving members of elite tactical units, including counter-terrorism officers, candidates, and operators of special forces. In addition to its national research initiatives, the University Athletics Centre maintains active collaborations with leading international institutions, including the University of Madeira and the University of Coimbra in Portugal, Charles University in the Czech Republic, and the University of Geneva in Switzerland. These partnerships facilitate joint research projects and result in numerous co-authored scientific publications.
