SCOPE OF RESEARCH

The research focuses on the interdisciplinary field of language teaching, with particular emphasis on second language acquisition processes and the impact of individual differences among learners on teaching outcomes.
The main areas of research include:

  • Mechanisms of second language acquisition: analysis of cognitive and affective factors influencing the development of receptive and productive skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing), with reference to teaching practices.
  • Learners’ individual differences: investigating the impact of personality traits (e.g. extraversion), locus of control, gender, learning styles and self-assessment (self-efficacy) on language achievement and engagement in the learning process.
  • Motivation and willingness to communicate: exploration of motivational aspects, their correlates (e.g. enjoyment, cultural capital) and their impact on learners’ communicative activity in school and academic contexts.
  • Teaching methods and tools: evaluation and development of innovative teaching methods (including drama in the EFL classroom and audience response systems) and their impact on classroom atmosphere, student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • 21st-century skills and soft skills: integrating language teaching with the development of skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, self-presentation and personal branding in the context of higher education.
  • Student mental health and well-being: research into issues related to student engagement, life satisfaction, academic burnout, coping strategies and resilience, with a particular focus on crisis contexts (e.g. the impact of the war in Ukraine on students).
  • Teacher training and the development of early-career researchers: research into effective forms of support for undergraduates and PhD students, mentoring practices, and the development of teaching skills among future foreign language teachers.
  • Cultural and intercultural aspects in language teaching: the relationship between cultural capital and communicative readiness, and the influence of cultural context on the teaching and learning process.
