The topic of my dissertation is: „Between the Screen and Identity. The Transmission of Values in the Process of Youth Self-Development in the Era of Influencer Culture"

Social media influencers have become one of the most important points of reference for today's young people. They shape opinions, lifestyles, consumer choices and, increasingly, the values young people hold and the way they see themselves. Influencers are emerging as new agents of upbringing who compete with family, school and teachers for authority. In Polish social pedagogy, however, this subject remains clearly under-represented and usually appears only on the margins of broader studies. Previous empirical studies point to a recurring pattern: young people declare a distance from influencers, yet the real influence influencers have on them is much stronger. There is still no research that examines both the declared and the actual dimension of this influence.
This phenomenon is the focus of my scientific interest. My research interests include social pedagogy, the pedagogy of values, the shaping of youth identity, self-development, media education and the influence of the digital environment on upbringing. During my PhD I will conduct quantitative research using a diagnostic survey among secondary school students aged 18–19. It will take place in general secondary schools. I will examine which platforms and influencers young people follow and what content interests them. I will also look at the values they declare, how they perceive their own identity, and in which areas they undertake self-development. A particular focus will be the gap between young people's declared distance from influencers and their actual consumer and imitative behaviour. I will also examine the relationship between identification with an influencer and the authority of the teacher.
As a theoretical objective, I consider organising and deepening knowledge about the transmission of values and self-development in contemporary digital culture, with special attention to influencers as new agents of educational influence. The cognitive objective is to describe how young people receive, interpret and internalise the values presented on social media. The practical objective is to formulate conclusions and guidelines for pedagogical practice that will help young people critically evaluate media content.
The results of the research will broaden pedagogical knowledge of the role of influencers and social media in shaping values, identity and self-development among young people. They will be of practical use to school pedagogues, teachers and others working with youth, especially in media education and in supporting the conscious use of online content. The findings may also serve as a basis for further research on the role of the digital environment in upbringing.
