The topic of my dissertation is: An Ecological Investigation into the Effectiveness of Service Learning on Improving Pre-service Teachers’ Well-being, Teaching Efficacy, and Foreign Language Teaching Enjoyment
My main area of interest is Foreign Language Acquisition and English Language Teaching Methodology.
The Service Learning method combines academic learning with practical engagement in community-based activities. It is gaining increasing recognition and interest in the field of pedagogy as an innovative approach that integrates academic development with social involvement. The literature highlights its potential in shaping prosocial attitudes and developing intercultural competencies. The aim of the study is to examine how systematic involvement in Service Learning projects affects three key areas: the psychological well-being of pre-service teachers, their sense of teaching efficacy, and their Foreign Language Teaching Enjoyment. The choice of this topic responds to contemporary challenges in teacher education, particularly in the context of growing lack of interest in the teaching profession among young people. Existing research points to a variety of reasons for this phenomenon, but few studies comprehensively examine the impact of the Service Learning method on the three of enumerated dimensions. Service Learning may also serve as a valuable initiative at universities, by promoting the field of study and contributing to increased interest in the teaching profession.
