The topic of my dissertation is „Effect of foliar fertilization with microelements on the yield and grain quality of brewing cultivars of spring barley cultivated in Podkarpacie region.”

In my research, I study the effect of foliar fertilization with microelements on the growth, development and yielding of malting barley plants and the suitability of grain for processing. Due to the possibility of versatile use, barley is one of the most popular cereals cultivated in the world. One of the directions of use of grain of this species is the production of beer. The main function of foliar feeding of plants is the rapid supply of nutrients in the period of the greatest demand, especially in unfavourable weather conditions. This is an important aspect in the face of climate change and the increasing prevalence of rainfall scarcity in many regions of the world.

As part of the preparation of my doctoral dissertation, I conduct field experiments with the use of four cultivars of malting barley and foliar fertilizers, that contain micronutrients (manganese, copper, zinc and molybdenum). The aim of the research is to determine the influence of selected micronutrients on the yield and quality of barley grain as well as the suitability of grain for the brewing industry. The research hypothesis assumes that foliar fertilization with microelements has a positive effect on the development and yielding of barley plants and improves the technological value of the grain.

My research will provide information for the agri-food process and products sector. They will complement the knowledge of the malting barley agrotechnics and the role of micronutrients in the creation of the yield of cereals. They can be used as a basis for use in agricultural practice and grain processing. They will be useful for the development of an implementation manual for the agrotechnics of the cultivars tested. The obtained research results may contribute to the development of regional breweries - small and medium-sized enterprises.

In my research work, I also conduct laboratory experiments on the role of micronutrients in buffering stress in plants caused by drought and high salt concentration in the soil.
