The MATS-AZS Rzeszów University team is being formed! The AZS UR University Club and the Table Tennis Academy are joining forces!

On February 6, 2026, His Magnificence the Rector of the University of Rzeszów, Prof. Adam Reich, MD, PhD, the President of the University Club of the Academic Sports Association (KU AZS) of the University of Rzeszów, Mateusz Salamon, and Board Members of the Championship Table Tennis School (MATS), Paweł Kobosz and Robert Floras, signed a letter of intent.

The agreement concerns the launch of a cooperation to create a professional table tennis team, which, starting next season, will compete in league tournaments under the name MATS-AZS University of Rzeszów.

The following individuals also participated in the work to prepare the agreement:

  • Prof. Wojciech Czarny, Dean of the College of Physical Culture Sciences;

  • Dr. Wojciech Bajorek, Board Member of KU AZS UR;

  • Dr. Krzysztof Piróg, Supervisor of the KU AZS UR table tennis section.

The planned initiative involves the development of training for children and youth, as well as the team's participation in league competitions at the highest level in Poland. The cooperation also aims to enable students of the University of Rzeszów to combine a sports career with academic studies and to represent the University in academic competitions.

This is a joint initiative for the development of table tennis in Rzeszów and, simultaneously, a very important chapter for the development of academic sports. The signing of this document constitutes a significant step toward building a strong table tennis hub in the region. Combining academic potential, training experience, and professional sports facilities opens the way to creating a team capable of competing at the highest national and international levels.

This cooperation aligns with the strategy of the University of Rzeszów, which consistently develops academic sports and supports initiatives that combine education with professional sports training.
