Rzeszów Commemorates the 81st Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising
On 1 August 2025, the community of Rzeszów gathered at the Monument to the Memory of the Home Army Soldiers to honour the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising. Representatives of the city authorities, government administration, and local residents paid tribute to those who fought. Flowers were also laid at the monument by the Rector of the University of Rzeszów.
At 5:00 p.m., marking the symbolic “W Hour”, the city came to a solemn standstill. Alarm sirens echoed across Rzeszów, and residents observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the insurgents.
The University of Rzeszów traditionally takes part in the city’s commemorative events, honouring moments in history that are vital to national identity and the cultivation of civic values. The anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising is a particularly poignant time for reflection on the tragedy of war, the price of freedom, and the strength of spirit of the young people who, 81 years ago, took up arms in defence of their homeland.
