Press Conference: Nearly PLN 300 Million in Funding for the Construction of the New University Hospital in Świlcza
On 2 October, a press conference was held at the University of Rzeszów with the participation of Professor Adam Reich, Rector of the University of Rzeszów, Teresa Kubas-Hul, Podkarpackie Voivode, and Members of the Polish Parliament from the Podkarpackie region — Krystyna Skowrońska and Joanna Frydrych.
The evaluation of strategic project proposals submitted to the national competition concluded on 30 September. On 1 October, coinciding with the start of the academic year, the Minister of Health approved the official ranking list of strategic projects recommended for implementation. The Minister identified 20 projects eligible for the establishment of investment programmes with 100% requested funding.
Podkarpackie Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul announced that the Podkarpackie region would receive nearly PLN 600 million to support the development of modern oncology treatment. Among the institutions awarded funding is the Frederic Chopin University Clinical Hospital in Rzeszów, which will receive PLN 299,859,144 for the expansion of its oncology facilities — specifically, the construction of a state-of-the-art oncology centre in Świlcza. The project is scheduled to be implemented between 2026 and 2029.
“This is an important day for the Podkarpackie region and a breakthrough moment,” emphasised Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul. “Two hospitals have received funding, including the University Clinical Hospital. This is a particularly significant event, as the plans for building the hospital in Świlcza — until now only a vision — are becoming increasingly tangible.”
This is also a landmark day for the University of Rzeszów, which has long sought to establish its own University Clinical Hospital. The announcement of the funding confirms that these efforts have been recognised and appreciated.
“Immediately after the inauguration, we received the information that the funding had been granted. We are very pleased, but this is also a great responsibility and commitment to hard work. Since yesterday, we have been holding meetings and discussions on how to make the most effective use of these funds,” said Professor Adam Reich, Rector of the University of Rzeszów.
The approved funding represents not only a major opportunity for the development of the healthcare system in the region but also a milestone in the history of the University of Rzeszów. The investment in Świlcza will enable the creation of a modern clinical base, serving both patients and students, as well as young doctors being trained at the University.
