New Patent for Researchers from the University of Rzeszów: Innovative Functional Fruit Gummies

We are pleased to announce that on April 11, 2025, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences at the University of Rzeszów: Professor Maciej Balawejder, Associate Professor Natalia Matłok, and Associate Professor Tomasz Piechowiak, was granted a patent for an innovative health-promoting confectionery product in the form of fruit gummies.

The patent titled “Method for Producing Health-Promoting Confectionery Products in the Form of Fruit Gummies” (P.441917) covers a novel manufacturing process for gummies enriched with bioactive compounds derived from modified young pine shoots, intended to support consumer health.

This invention is the result of an interdisciplinary research collaboration focused on developing technology to integrate functional plant-based ingredients - specifically extracts from young pine shoots - into a gummy matrix. The aim was to create a product that is not only appealing in taste but also contributes to well-being through immune support and antioxidant effects.

Detailed information about the patent can be found in the Polish Patent Office database: Patent P.441917

In addition to its practical value, the developed functional food product features a complex composition with multi-directional health effects, thoroughly described in a high-impact scientific publication: ScienceDirect article

We warmly congratulate the team from the Faculty of Technology and Natural Sciences at the University of Rzeszów on this achievement and wish them continued success in the field of functional food innovation.
