Modern cloud-based computer labs at the University of Rzeszów
The Faculty of Technology and Natural Sciences at the University of Rzeszów has equipped its IT laboratories with 90 state-of-the-art computers fitted with professional software used in design and IT. The new infrastructure enables teaching of the highest standard, meeting the current needs of the labour market and the development of digital technologies.
A key element of the implementation is the use of Cloud Workstations technology, a system enabling remote access to virtual workstations operating in the cloud. This solution allows users to utilise high computing power regardless of location and end-user hardware.
The system is based on a multi-layer architecture. The infrastructure layer includes, amongst other things, virtual machines, GPU accelerators used in advanced computing (e.g. CAD, artificial intelligence or 3D graphics), high-speed network drives and a secure network environment. The application layer, in turn, provides users with specialist tools – ranging from integrated development environments (IDEs) and engineering software to advanced graphics and simulation applications.
The solutions implemented provide access to next-generation servers equipped with AMD EPYC processors and NVIDIA L40S graphics cards. Each virtual workstation serves as a powerful computing hub that can be utilised across a wide range of educational and research applications.
The new infrastructure supports, amongst other things, engineering analysis, architectural design and visualisations, geoinformatics courses, terrain modelling, as well as multimedia processing – from 2D and 3D graphics to DTP. Another key feature is the ability to deliver courses remotely and in a hybrid format.
The Cloud Workstations system offers a modern alternative to traditional workstations. Thanks to its high performance and scalability, it is particularly useful in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, simulations and advanced scientific research.
The investment is part of the University of Rzeszów’s development strategy, which aims to provide students with access to the latest technologies and prepare them for work in a rapidly changing digital environment.
