A scholarly conference entitled “Generationality in Social Life” was held at the University of Rzeszów, combined with the celebration of the 85th birthday of Rev. Prof. Janusz Mariański, dr h.c. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the Podkarpackie Voivode and the Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. It was organised by the Institute of Sociological Sciences and the Rzeszów Branch of the Polish Sociological Association.

The conference was opened by Professor Adam Reich, Rector of the University of Rzeszów, and Professor Jolanta Szempruch, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation.

Addresses were delivered by: His Excellency Bishop Jan Wątroba, PhD, Ordinary of the Diocese of Rzeszów; Wiesław Buż, Deputy Voivode of Podkarpackie; Dr Karol Ożóg, Deputy Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship; Dr Mieczysław Janowski, former President of the City of Rzeszów, Senator of the Republic of Poland and Member of the European Parliament; and Marcin Deręgowski, Deputy President of Rzeszów.

The Honorary Committee also included: Piotr Pilch, Deputy Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship; Jerzy Borcz, Chairman of the Podkarpackie Regional Assembly; Krystyna Stachowska, Deputy President of Rzeszów; Mirosław Kwaśniak, Deputy Chair of the Rzeszów City Council; Associate Professor Jacek Strojny, Deputy Chair of the Rzeszów City Council; Jerzy Jęczmienionka, Councillor of the Rzeszów City Council; Krystyna Wróblewska, Councillor of the Rzeszów City Council; Grażyna Szarama, Head of Social Schools Complex No. 2 in Rzeszów and Head of the Parliamentary Office of MEP Bogdan Rzońca, former Councillor of the Rzeszów City Council; Dr Stanisław Mazur, President of the “Medyk” Medical Centre; and Andrzej Szypuła, President of the Zygmunt Mycielski Society in Wiśniowa.

Papers were presented by professors of sociology from the following academic centres: Białystok, Cieszyn, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Katowice, Kraków, Lublin, Łomża, Łódź, Olsztyn, Rzeszów, Warsaw, Wrocław and Nitra (Slovakia).

The conference enjoyed media patronage from: TVP Rzeszów, the Wiadomości Rzeszowskie Internet Television, Polish Radio Rzeszów, Radio Via, the daily Nowiny, the portal NOWINY24, and the socio-cultural monthly Nasz Dom Rzeszów.
