Celebration of the University of Rzeszów Day 2025

On 10 June 2025, the University of Rzeszów celebrated its annual University Day, which traditionally brings together the academic community, invited guests, representatives of national and local authorities, and individuals distinguished in their contributions to the University. This year’s event featured doctoral and habilitation promotions, as well as the presentation of state decorations, awards, and honorary titles.

Opening Ceremony

The ceremony was inaugurated by the Rector of the University of Rzeszów, Professor Adam Reich who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests. Speeches were also delivered by Professor Marek Gzik, State Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education; Podkarpackie Vice-Voivode Wiesław Buża; Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, Member of the Board of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship; Krystyna Stachowska, Deputy President of the City of Rzeszów; and His Excellency Bishop Kazimierz Górny.

Presentation of State Decorations and Awards

During the event, several University employees were honoured with state decorations and awards:

  • Bronze Crosses of Merit: 2 recipients
  • Gold Medal for Long Service: 7 recipients
  • Silver Medal for Long Service: 10 recipients
  • Bronze Medal for Long Service: 5 recipients
  • Medal of the National Education Commission: 6 recipients

  • Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture “Gloria Artis” awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage to three distinguished Professors.

In addition, eight students were awarded the Minister’s Scholarship for Significant Achievements for the 2024/2025 academic year:

  1. Justyna Anna Dubeńska – Preschool and Early Childhood Education
  2. Bernadetta Weronika Jakubowska – Medicine
  3. Karolina Martyna Milli – Law
  4. Wiktoria Mytych – Medicine
  5. Agnieszka Bogumiła Przygórzewska – Medicine
  6. Izabela Sarzyńska – Physics
  7. Julia Oliwie Trojniak – Medicine
  8. Paweł Andrzej Woźnicki – Medicine

Academic Achievement Awards

A total of 183 staff members were honoured for their scientific achievements:

  • First-Degree Awards: 20 recipients
  • Second-Degree Awards: 71 recipients
  • Third-Degree Awards: 92 recipients

Honorary Ambassadors of the University of Rzeszów

For the first time in its history, the University awarded the title of Honorary Ambassador of the University of Rzeszów to:

  • Arkadiusz Andrejkow – street artist and creator of the “Silent Memorial” project
  • Adam Bienias – TVP3 Rzeszów journalist promoting Polish culture and language
  • Łukasz Federkiewicz (Kortez) – singer and alumnus of the Faculty of Music
  • Anna Wielgosz – athlete, physiotherapy alumna and European Champion in the 800 m race

Doctoral and Habilitation Promotions

The doctoral promotion ceremony has a special significance as it represents the culmination of years of dedicated work by doctoral candidates, supported by the invaluable scientific supervision of their advisors and the supportive institutional structures of the University.

In the period since the last promotion ceremony, 63 candidates have been awarded scientific degrees in the humanities, social sciences, engineering and technical sciences, natural and exact sciences, agriculture, medical sciences, and health sciences:

  • Doctoral Degrees: 46 recipients
  • Habilitation Degrees: 17 recipients

  • Faculty of Biology and Nature Protection: 2 doctoral degrees
  • Faculty of Philology: 4 doctoral degrees
  • Faculty of Humanities: 8 doctoral degrees
  • Faculty of Music: 1 doctoral degree
  • Faculty of Social Sciences: 3 doctoral and 1 habilitation degree
  • Faculty of Exact and Technical Sciences: 2 doctoral and 2 habilitation degrees
  • Faculty of Pedagogy and Philosophy: 2 doctoral degrees
  • Faculty of Law and Administration: 4 doctoral and 1 habilitation degree
  • Faculty of Fine Arts: 3 doctoral degrees
  • Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences: 4 doctoral degrees

Programme for the Development of the Humanities and Social Sciences

During the ceremony, certificates were also awarded to the winners of the first edition of the Programme for the Development of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Originally funded at PLN 350,000, the programme’s budget was expanded to nearly PLN 445,000, enabling support for 17 innovative research projects.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Choir of the Faculty of Music, conducted by Associate Professor Bożena Stasiowska-Chrobak, for providing a magnificent musical backdrop to the celebration.
