On June 11, 2026, the Faculty of Exact and Technical Sciences of the University of Rzeszów once again became a space for dialogue between students, teachers and the academic community. This year's sixth edition of the conference in the Faces of Mathematics series, was dedicated to the memory of Professor Józef Siciak (1931–2017), an outstanding mathematician born in Lecka near Błażowa in Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The conference was hosted by Anna Szpila, PhD from the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Rzeszów and Adam Kawałek, representing the Podkarpackie Teacher Education Centre.

Topics of presentations and speakers

The aim of the event was to popularize mathematics through a series of lectures that opened up new horizons for participants. They shared their knowledge and passion with the gathered listeners:

• dr. hab. Stanisław Domoradzki, prof. UR – presented prof. Józef Siciak as a world-famous scientist,
• dr. hab. Stanisława Kanas, prof. UR – presented the outstanding achievements of prof. Józef Siciak, showing him as an architect of multidimensional complex analysis,
• dr. Anna Szpila – gave a lecture entitled „The complex face of polynomials”,
• Justyna Piecuch (third-year student of mathematics at the University of Rzeszów) – introduced young people to the geometric world of complex numbers in an extremely accessible and engaging way, discussing transformations of the plane,
• Jerzy Mil – using the GeoGebra environment presented the world of Platonic polyhedra to listeners,
• Witold Stachnik – led a practical lecture devoted to examination tasks in the field of geometry.

Awards and guests of honour

An important and long-awaited part of the programme was the ceremonial presentation of awards to the winners of the XXV Franciszek Leja Subcarpathian Subcarpathian Mathematical Competition. We sincerely congratulate all the awarded and distinguished students and wish them further scientific success! The conference was honoured by the presence of its Special Guest and Honorary Patron, Jerzy Borcz, Chairman of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship Assembly.

The event was the result of successful cooperation between many institutions. The conference was prepared by the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Agriculture, the Podkarpackie Teacher Education Centre, the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (SNM Podkarpacie) and the Rzeszów Branch of the Polish Mathematical Society.
