77th Mathematical Olympiad
On 13 and 14 February, the University of Rzeszów hosted the second stage of the 77th Mathematical Olympiad. The Mathematical Olympiad is the most prestigious mathematics competition for secondary school students in Poland, held annually since the 1949/1950 academic year. Each edition attracts approximately 2,000 participants. Eligible to compete are students of Polish schools as well as Polish citizens studying abroad.
This year, 43 participants took part in the second-stage competition in the Rzeszów district. The second stage lasted two days, with participants solving three problems in five hours each day. The competition was organised by the Regional Committee in Rzeszów, while the solutions are centrally evaluated.
After the papers are evaluated, the Main Committee sets the qualifying score. The participants who achieve the required number of points advance to the third stage, earning the title of Olympiad finalist. This title primarily grants exemption from the mathematics matriculation exam and the awarding of the maximum grade.
We take pride in the fact that Polish mathematical traditions are being upheld at the Faculty of Exact and Technical Sciences at the University of Rzeszów.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for all participants in this year’s second stage of the 77th Mathematical Olympiad.
