Digital Systems Laboratory specializes in research on optimization methods and design of digital systems. It operates in the structure of the Laboratory of Applied Computer Science in part subordinated to the Chair of Computer Science.

1. The scientific staff

Bogdan Rytsar, Prof, PhD, DSc is the head of the Digital Systems Laboratory.

The most important employees’ achievements to this laboratory are:

  • scientific articles,
  • active participation in international scientific conferences,
  • prototypes of specialized software,
  • engineering graduate works thematically related to laboratory research profile.

2. Research tasks

Developing new methods of optimization on the analysis and synthesis of logic circuits and digital systems (in particular combinational circuits) based on minimization and decomposition of Boolean functions.

Development of computer programs supporting the process of optimal design of digital systems using their own methods of exact or heuristic optimization.

3. Equipment hardware and software

In the Digital Systems Laboratory there are 15 available modern computers with specialized software, including two that possess their own programs in the field of digital technology, supporting and optimizing the design of digital devices and systems. They are:

  • SPLIT (version 2.3) - a program to minimize Boolean function by splitting conjuncterms;
  • BRASH - a program to help the decomposition of Boolean functions and set-theoretical systems of Boolean functions by breaking conjuncterms.

4. Concluding remarks

This specialized software which is available in the lab can be also used by students preparing Engineering or Master’s theses.

Currently under preparation are two specialized computer programs developed by the students:

(a) orthogonalisation conjuncterms asked Boolean functions in different ways,

(b) transformation Boolean function with form DNF into a polynomial.
