About the Faculty

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Rzeszów was officially established on January 1, 2025, following the structural division of the former College of Humanities comprising following institutes: Institute of Archaeology, Institute of Philosophy, Institute of History, Institute of Linguistics, Institute of Literary Studies, Institute of Music, and Institute of Fine Arts.

The Faculty of Humanities continues the academic and institutional legacy of the former Faculty of Sociology and History, which played a pivotal role in the foundation and development of the University of Rzeszów. Operating from 1994 to 2019, the Faculty of Sociology and History included the following institutes: Institute of Archaeology, Institute of Philosophy, Institute of History, Institute of Political Science, and Institute of Sociology.

In accordance with the Resolution of the Senate of the University of Rzeszów dated December 16, 2024, the Faculty of Humanities is recognized as one of the fifteen faculties currently operating within the University structure.

Structure

The Faculty of Humanities includes two disciplinary institutes - the Institute of Archaeology and the Institute of History, as well as the European Interdisciplinary Research Center for Borderland Cultural Convergence and the Laboratory of Digital Archaeology and Source Research (formerly the University's Archaeological Materials Repository).

Academic Programmes

The Faculty offers undergraduate and graduate studies in four fields of study:

  • Archaeology,
  • History,
  • Cultural Studies,
  • Historical and Cultural Tourism.

Research and Publications

The two scientific disciplines represented within the Faculty (Archaeology and History) are the only ones at the University of Rzeszów that have been continuously awarded the A scientific category since 2017.

The Faculty of Humanities is authorized to confer the degree of Doctor of Humanities and the degree of Doctor of Humanities in the disciplines of archaeology and history.

The Faculty publishes prestigious scientific journals:

  • Analecta Archaeologica Resoviensia,
  • Galicia. Studies and Materials,
  • Materials and Reports of the Rzeszów Archaeological Center
  • UR Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
