International Research Grant for the Institute of Applied Linguistics.

We’re happy to share some great news from the Institute of Applied Linguistics! An international research project by Dr Iwona Szwed and Dr Judyta Pawliszko, entitled “AI-Supported Tools in the Translation Process, Self-Reflection, and Autonomous Learning,” has received funding under the NAWA Programme – Polish–Slovak Joint Research Projects 2025.
The project will run in 2026–2027. Dr Iwona Szwed is the project coordinator, with Dr Judyta Pawliszko involved as one of the project researchers. The project will be carried out in cooperation with the University of Prešov and will include the active participation of students in the research process.
What is the project about? The research focuses on how AI-based tools (LLMs) are used in:
- translating specialised texts,
- Self-reflection,
- autonomous learning,
by students of translation studies and German studies working with highly specialised technical texts translated from German into Polish and Slovak.
The project responds to real and growing needs in today’s job market, where graduates of language programmes increasingly work as technical and intercultural communication specialists and are expected to use AI tools thoughtfully and critically.
Congratulations to Dr Iwona Szwed and Dr Judyta Pawliszko! We wish them all the best as they move forward with this exciting project.
