Culture and Media in Reveals – Second Lecture of the Series

On 10 March 2026, the KULA Auditorium at the University of Rzeszów hosted the second lecture in the series “Culture and Media in Reveals”, organized by the Institute of Applied Linguistics.

The guest speaker was Prof. Marta Wójcicka (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin), who delivered a lecture entitled “Multimodal Research on Collective Memory.” In her talk, Professor Wójcicka introduced the audience to key issues related to social communication and media, with particular emphasis on collective memory, communication processes, and cultural identity. The presentation highlighted how different forms of expression – text, image, and media – interact to shape contemporary narratives about social memory.

A particularly noteworthy aspect of the event was the simultaneous interpretation into German, performed in professional interpreting booths by fifth-year students of Applied Linguistics – future translators. Under the supervision of Prof. Marta Smykała, the students demonstrated interpreting skills and provided professional linguistic support for the audience.

The event once again showed how academic lectures can be combined with practical training for translation students, giving them the opportunity to gain real-life interpreting experience.

The organizers would like to thank all participants for their presence and invite everyone to attend the upcoming events in the “Culture and Media in Reveals” lecture series.
