The international AI-TEACH Summer School: AI in Education: From Awareness to Practice, held at the University of Rzeszow from 30 August to 4 September 2026 as part of the Erasmus+ AI-TEACH : “Enhancing Teachers’ AI Literacy, has come to an end”.

It was an intensive week of workshops, discussions and hands-on activities exploring how future teachers can be prepared to use artificial intelligence critically, responsibly and meaningfully.

The programme drew on Holmes’ (2022) framework of learning about AI, learning with AI. Participants explored the possibilities and limitations of generative AI, ethical issues, bias and stereotypes, prompting, lesson and material design, as well as the role of AI in assessment and the analysis of learning.

An important part of the Summer School was moving from theory to classroom practice. Students participating in AI TEACH Summer School put their worked-out lesson scenarios into practice with students of IX Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Rzeszow, focusing on both learning about AI and learning with AI. We were delighted that the activities received a very positive response from the students.

The summer school program also included an intensive exchange of international experiences, fostering cooperation among participants from different countries, and strengthening intercultural competencies. An important element was the opportunity to explore Rzeszów and the Podkarpacie region, including the local cultural heritage and pottery traditions in Medynia Głogowska, which fostered mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue.

The summer school also yielded results in the form of student works that combined visual arts with poetry, as well as handmade clay pieces and painted ceramic tiles, which served as creative interpretations of their AI-TEACH experience

We would like to thank the participants of the AI TEACH summer school, the workshop instructors, the project partners, the community of High School No. 9, and all units of the University of Rzeszów involved in organizing the summer school.

AI is changing education, but it is teachers’ knowledge, critical judgement and decisions that will ultimately shape its place in the classroom.
