Reviewing principles

In accordance with the rules specified by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the journal Tematy i Konteksty applies the following principles of reviewing scientific publications:

    1. The editorial board of Tematy i Konteksty performs a preliminary qualification of the submitted materials. In the case of doubts, the editorial board requests an opinion of a selected member of the Scientific Board specializing in a given area of literature studies.
    2. Materials qualified for publication are then submitted for external review.
    3. Every single article is reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers. Reviewers are appointed by the editorial board, taking into consideration the thematic range of the submitted materials.
    4. If the text is written in a foreign language, at least one of the reviewers is affiliated in a foreign institution in a country other than the country of origin of the text’s author.
    5. A reviewer is obliged to sign a declaration stating that there is no conflict of interests in relation to the authors of articles reviewed by them; conflict of interest is understood as the following relations between the reviewer and the author:
      1. direct personal relations (kinship, legal relations, conflict),
      2. professional relations,
      3. direct scientific co-operation within the last two years prior to writing the review.
    6. A review is of a descriptive nature, it needs to be formulated in writing and concluded with a clear statement saying that the article is or is not qualified for the publication.
    7. Principles related to qualifying or rejecting the publication, as well as the article’s review sheet are available on the journal’s website.
    8. Once a year the editorial board discloses the list of reviewers (in the paper edition of the journal, as well as on the journal’s website).
    9. After publishing every single issue of the journal, the editorial board addresses all members of the Scientific Board and requests their opinion.
