English Society students put modern didactics into practice

We’re happy to share news about a hands-on teaching and research initiative carried out by students from the Didactics Section of the English Society. Working under the academic supervision of dr Marta Dick-Bursztyn and dr Arkadiusz Pietluch, and with strong coordination by the section chairs, Wiktoria Janik and Aleksandra Bożek, the students delivered English-language classes for pupils from High School No. I and High School No. IX in Rzeszów.

The sessions were organised as an interdisciplinary educational project that combined the learning through teaching approach, the jigsaw Classroom method, and elements of an educational escape room. Pupils were actively involved in language-based and problem-solving tasks, working together in teams, thinking critically, and using English throughout the classes.

The initiative was not only engaging from a teaching perspective but also had a clear research focus. Selected students carried out classroom observations and collected data to examine how effective the teaching methods were, as well as how their own materials and visual resources worked in practice. For the students, it was a valuable opportunity to develop their teaching, project-based, and research skills.

Both the secondary school teachers and the pupils responded very positively, praising the academic level of the classes, their interactive format, and the students’ professional preparation. We would like to thank everyone involved, including the students, academic supervisors, project coordinators, and partner schools, for their cooperation and openness. The project is a great example of modern academic teaching that successfully brings together theory, practice, and research.
