Adventures Begin Early: Promoting Reading Among Preschoolers in Rzeszów

Scholars from the Institute of Polish Studies and Journalism have joined efforts to promote reading among young children as part of the 4th International Children’s Book Day organized by EUROPE DIRECT Rzeszów 2026. This year’s edition, held under the theme “Przystanek - Wyspa!” (“Stopover - Island!”), focuses on inspiring a love of literature through stories centered on islands and travel.

The initiative involves a series of engaging meetings in local preschools, where adults read aloud to children, introducing them to imaginative narratives and encouraging early reading habits. Through these interactive sessions, the program aims to foster curiosity, creativity, and a lasting appreciation for books among the youngest audiences.

On April 17, one such event took place at Public Preschool No. 21 in Rzeszów, featuring Dr. hab. Arkadiusz Luboń, Professor of the University of Rzeszów. During the session, children listened to the illustrated, rhyming story “The Turtle Who Turned the Tide” by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. The story proved both captivating and engaging, keeping the young audience attentive while gently encouraging perseverance and self-belief.

Events like these demonstrate how meaningful encounters with literature can spark early interest in reading and open the door to further literary exploration.
