Students from Biszcza Visit the Faculty of Economics and Finance

Can the interests we have today influence what we will do in the future? How can we consciously find our own path and make informed decisions about further education? How can we manage a household budget rationally? Participants of the workshops held on 29 September 2026 at the Faculty of Economics and Finance of the University of Rzeszów explored these and many other questions.

The Faculty welcomed students from the Local Government School Complex named after the Children of Zamość Region in Biszcza, who were taking part in the educational project entitled “Lessons on Finance”. The project aims to introduce students to basic concepts in economics and finance, with particular emphasis on the functioning and circulation of money.

For seventh- and eighth-grade primary school students, the visit to the university provided an opportunity to look at their future from a slightly different perspective. The workshop entitled “The Future Starts Today – On Interests, Educational Choices and Economic Aspirations” was led by Piotr Cyrek, PhD.

During the workshop, the students explored their own interests, aptitudes and strengths, considering how these could translate into the development of specific competences. They also discussed why choosing a degree programme and a future profession should not be a matter of chance, and how becoming aware of their own abilities at an early stage can help them make more informed educational decisions.

The workshop also addressed the economic dimension of the future. The students considered how knowledge, competences, interests, and the ability to adapt to changing labour market conditions may affect their future professional and economic situation. At the same time, it was emphasised that a teenager does not need to know yet what they will be doing ten or fifteen years from now. What matters more is getting to know oneself and discovering areas that genuinely spark interest. It is precisely today's interests and first conscious choices that may become the starting point for a future educational and professional path.

Part of the meeting was also devoted to issues related to everyday money management. The workshop entitled “Your Wallet Under Control” was led by Andżelika Drozd, MA. The workshop focused on the principles of conscious household budget management, including planning income, expenditure and savings. The participants discussed ways of optimising spending, building an emergency fund and avoiding the most common mistakes that can lead to excessive debt. Practical principles of effective budgeting were also presented, along with ways of reducing expenses and increasing the financial security of a household.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the young participants to learn more about the University of Rzeszów and the Faculty of Economics and Finance. The visit of the students from Biszcza showed that a conversation about economics does not have to begin with complicated concepts and charts. It can start with a simple question: “What would we like to achieve in the future?” — and another: “How can we consciously manage what, as a result of our own decisions and work, we will have in the future?”
