Economist Day 2026
On March 20, 2026, during Economist Day at the Stanisław Staszic Vocational School Complex in Grybów, staff and students from the Faculty of Economics and Finance had the opportunity to meet with the school’s students, teachers, and directors.
Dr. Małgorzata Wosiek, in her presentation “Why Do We Need Economics? – An Economic Perspective on Everyday Decisions,” explained how models of behavior - from the classical homo economicus to behavioral approaches - help us understand daily choices. Together with the students, she explored examples illustrating phenomena such as the representativeness heuristic, anchoring effect, decoy effect, and framing. Thanks to this, students were able to better understand the mechanisms influencing decisions made by consumers and producers.
Hubert Leśniak, M.A., in his presentation “Money Likes a Plan – How to Manage Your Personal Budget?” addressed the topic of personal finance, which forms the foundation of the well-being of society as a whole. The students learned the basic principles of budgeting, managing income, and limiting expenses. Workshop participants analyzed best practices as well as potential pitfalls that may arise when organizing their personal finances.
Dr. Piotr Cyrek, in his presentation “A Few Remarks on (Un)Everyday Purchases – How Not to Overpay for a Touch of Luxury?” covered many aspects of consumer behavior, including purchases influenced by marketing tools and manipulation. In an improvised role-play, students learned to recognize moments when someone is trying to influence their decisions and how to respond consciously.
Dominika Dymon and Jakub Karczewski showed the school’s students what Economics and Finance look like from the perspective of students at the University of Rzeszów. They presented the opportunities offered by the university not only in terms of gaining knowledge and skills, but also in extracurricular activities such as student government, academic clubs, and informal groups.
