About the Faculty

The Faculty of Biology and Nature Protection at the University of Rzeszów, established on January 1, 2025, is an academic unit formed from the transformation of the Institute of Biology, which had been operating since April 1, 2023. The Faculty offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Biology and conducts scientific research in the discipline of biological sciences.

The mission of the Faculty is to pursue scientific excellence, gain international recognition, and promote an interdisciplinary approach to biological research. The Faculty emphasizes collaboration with the socio-economic environment and the implementation of a modern educational process. A strong focus is also placed on promoting the principles of sustainable development in both research and teaching, with the aim of fostering environmentally responsible and socially conscious future professionals.

The Faculty authorities are:

· Dean: Dr. hab. Mateusz Mołoń

· Vice-Dean for Science and Development: Dr. hab. Konrad Leniowski (acting)

· Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education: Dr. hab. Ewa Węgrzyn (acting)

The Faculty does not have an internal organizational structure divided into departments or laboratories, which fosters integration of research teams and the implementation of joint scientific initiatives.

The development strategy of the Faculty for the years 2021–2030 includes, among others:

· developing interdisciplinary research areas,

· internationalizing research through cooperation with leading scientific institutions worldwide,

· increasing the effectiveness of research funding acquisition,

· supporting the professional development of academic staff,

· intensifying the involvement of students in scientific research projects,

· embedding sustainability principles in academic programs and institutional practices.

The Faculty actively participates in ecological education and the promotion of pro-environmental attitudes in society, fulfilling its mission through various scientific and educational activities.

Among the most important science popularization initiatives organized by the Faculty are:

· The Night of Biologists,

· The Science Picnic,

· numerous interviews and expert commentaries given by Faculty staff to TV and radio stations.
