Dr Dalia Anna Pokutta jest badaczką specjalizującą się w biomedycznych zastosowaniach analiz izotopowych, paleogenomice patogenów oraz biologii populacyjnej człowieka. Stopień doktora nauk uzyskała na Uniwersytecie w Göteborgu (Szwecja), a tytuł magistra na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim w Krakowie. W latach 2009-2013 była stypendystką programu Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN Unii Europejskiej. Od 2016 roku pracuje jako Senior Researcher w Archaeological Research Laboratory na Uniwersytecie w Sztokholmie, a od 2023 roku jest adiunktem na Uniwersytecie Rzeszowskim.

Jej badania koncentrują się na etiologii i ewolucji patogenów chorób zakaźnych, w szczególności dżumy (Yersinia pestis) oraz wirusa zapalenia wątroby typu B (HBV), z wykorzystaniem metod paleogenomicznych i bioinformatycznych. Jest współautorką publikacji w czasopismach Nature i Cell, które zmieniły rozumienie ewolucji patogenów, dróg transmisji oraz interakcji patogen–gospodarz na poziomie populacyjnym. Jej zainteresowania badawcze obejmują fizjologię izotopową człowieka, identyfikację osobniczą, biomarkery środowiskowe, paleodemografię i mobilność populacji, a także rekonstrukcję zdrowia, diety oraz stylu życia dawnych populacji ludzkich.

W swoich pracach integruje metody izotopowe, genomikę, archeometrię i modelowanie statystyczne w celu odtwarzania biologicznych i środowiskowych uwarunkowań stanu zdrowia człowieka, co ma bezpośrednie implikacje dla medycyny populacyjnej, medycyny sądowej, epidemiologii i badań translacyjnych. Pełni funkcję kierowniczki i współwykonawcy międzynarodowych, interdyscyplinarnych grantów badawczych, finansowanych między innymi przez Uniwersytet Rzeszowski, Swedish Institute, Längmanska Kulturfonden, Lars Hiertas Minne, Hägglunds Stiftelse oraz inne fundacje.

W ostatnich latach rozwija zainteresowania w zakresie bioetyki i prawa medycznego ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem etycznych i prawnych aspektów pracy z ludzkim materiałem biologicznym i badań genetycznych.

Dr Dalia Pokutta is a researcher specialising in biomedical applications of isotopic analyses, pathogen palaeogenomics, and human population biology. She obtained her PhD at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and her MA degree at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland). In 2009-2013, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN fellow funded by the European Union. Since 2016, she has been employed as a Senior Researcher at the Archaeological Research Laboratory, Stockholm University, and since 2023 she has held the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Rzeszów.

Her research focuses on the aetiology and evolution of infectious disease pathogens, in particular plague (Yersinia pestis) and hepatitis B virus (HBV), using palaeogenomic and bioinformatic approaches. She is a co-author of publications in Nature and Cell, which have contributed to reshaping the understanding of pathogen evolution, transmission pathways, and host–pathogen interactions at the population level. Her research interests include human isotopic physiology, individual identification, environmental biomarkers, palaeodemography and population mobility, as well as the reconstruction of health, diet, and lifestyle in past human populations.

In her work, she integrates isotopic methods, genomics, archaeometry, and statistical modelling to reconstruct biological and environmental determinants of human health, with direct implications for population medicine, forensic medicine, epidemiology, and translational research. She serves as principal investigator and co-investigator in international interdisciplinary research grants funded by, among others, the University of Rzeszów, the Swedish Institute, Längmanska Kulturfonden, Lars Hiertas Minne, Hägglunds Stiftelse, and other funding bodies.

In recent years, she has expanded her research interests to bioethics and medical law, with a particular focus on the ethical and legal aspects of working with human biological material and genetic research.
