The topic of my dissertation is: „Recording Sensations. Printmaking as a Medium of Intuitive Creative Experimentation.”
Intuition constitutes a vital component of the creative process, enabling artists to make decisions based on internal sensibility rather than predefined logic. It plays a significant role in the development of a personal artistic style and fosters the deepening of individual creative expression. This doctoral research project aims to investigate the influence of intuition on the evolution of an artist’s distinctive visual language, with a particular focus on its capacity to support technical experimentation in the field of printmaking.
The study will concentrate on selected formal aspects, such as the transparency of matter, the line as an expression of free and authentic creative gesture, and handwritten script as a compositional element that conveys emotional and personal resonance. The core methodology will be grounded in artistic experimentation across various printmaking techniques, including planographic, intaglio, relief, and monotype processes. The experimental nature of this research will also encompass the layering of multiple printing techniques within a single impression, as well as the use of diverse substrates such as printmaking paper, rice paper, and textile materials.
Layered printmaking will serve as a central strategy for exploring the dynamic relationship between intuitive perception and visual representation, allowing each print to embody a unique synthesis of material and conceptual investigation. In my own practice, I will engage with the interplay of symbols, structures, and signs, intuitively constructing complex and varied compositions through the successive layering of visual elements. This process-driven approach will enable the creation of unique visual outcomes that reflect spontaneity guided by intuition, while simultaneously contributing to broader formal and material inquiries within contemporary printmaking discourse.
