50 Years of Agricultural Education in Zalesie
On 27 October 2025, the Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences of the University of Rzeszów celebrated a remarkable anniversary — its 50th anniversary. The ceremony provided an opportunity for reflection, recollection, and appreciation of the rich history of a unit that, for half a century, has been an important centre for the development of natural and agricultural sciences in the Podkarpacie region.
The history of the Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences dates back to 1973, when the Branch Faculty of Agricultural Production Economics and Trade of the University of Agriculture in Kraków was established. This marked the first step on the path that led to the creation of one of the region’s key academic centres. Over the following decades, the Faculty developed continuously, adapting its educational and research offer to the evolving needs of society and the economy. Today, the Faculty is an integral part of the University of Rzeszów — a modern institution combining tradition with innovation.
The Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences is a place where scientific passion meets a practical approach to contemporary challenges. Its structure includes modern laboratories and research teams implementing projects in the fields of sustainable development, environmental protection, biotechnology, and agricultural innovation.
At present, the Faculty educates students in fields encompassing both classical agricultural disciplines and modern specialisations aligned with labour market needs. Among these are agroforestry, renewable energy sources and waste management, food technology and human nutrition, and logistics in the agri-food sector, as well as other programmes that enable graduates to combine scientific knowledge with technological and managerial skills.
During the jubilee ceremony, the significance of the Faculty for the development of both the region and the University was strongly emphasised. The event paid tribute to all those who, over the years, have built its identity — scholars, lecturers, administrative staff, and thousands of graduates who, through their knowledge and experience, continue to contribute to the advancement of Polish science and the national economy.
