Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology of the University of Rzeszow works in the fields of biotechnology and cell biology of the non-conventional yeasts. It appears to be the only place where studies in the field of genetic engineering of microorganisms are carried out. The staff of the Department uses the modern methods of molecular genetics, including that of molecular cloning of microorganisms as well as methods of microbial biochemistry and physiology. Department works currently on two grants Opus. In the past, the Department fulfilled grants of Polish Research Committee, Polish Ministry for Science and High Education, 4 exchange grants with Belgium (Wallonia), 2 exchange grants with Austria, Swedish-Polish-Ukrainian grant Visby, EU cross-border grant with Ukraine. Department possesses modern equipment which permits to resolve complicated problems of the contemporary molecular genetics and genetic engineering.
