Abstract: Isoflavones raise broad interest as phytoestrogens. One aim of the study is comparison of antioxidant properties of several isoflavones in different experimental systems and analysis of results in terms of structure-function relationship. Another aim consists in examination of the effect of selected isoflavones on the growth of chosen normal and malignant cells, in particular comparison of the effects on estrogen-dependent and estrogen-independent breast/ovarian cancer cells. Signaling pathways responsible for the cell growth effects will be identified. The effects of extracts of Polish plants rich in isoflavones on cell growth will also be studied in order to foresee possible pro-health effects of these plants as diet components of prophylactic importance or recommended for patients with some types of cancer.
Requirements for the candidate: M.Sc. in food science, chemistry or biology, strong motivation for experimental research.
